SAS Alumni Reunite After a Decade
On a warm summer’s day in August, over 70 Shanghai American School alumni from the Class of 2015 gathered in New York City to celebrate their 10-year reunion. Eagles gathered from as close as a few blocks away to as far as Australia, eager to reconnect with classmates.
It was no easy feat to reunite after a decade. Alumni volunteer organizers Andrew Chang and Carina Seah from the Pudong campus and Roseanne Chao and Annalise Ko from the Puxi campus began planning more than a year in advance, surveying classmates on best dates and locations, coordinating RSVPs and sponsorships, securing venues and confirming various last-minute details.
Roseanne reflected that, while they had no idea what to expect when they began planning, they gained so much appreciation for classmates who came together to make the event a success, whether they helped in the planning process, flew out to NYC to attend the event, and even those who couldn’t make it but attended in spirit.
Andrew echoed these sentiments, highlighting the strong bonds that remain between SAS Eagles far beyond when they leave our halls. “Attendees were intentional about making time for the event, in many cases traveling from other states or even countries, and the genuine nature of the conversations that were had – where folks were earnestly invested in each other's triumphs and troubles over the past ten years – speaks volumes to the honest and enduring character of the SAS community. The bonds you make at SAS are good for life and I could not be prouder to be an Eagle.”
As the evening wound down, Eagles reminisced and reflected on the deep impact SAS had on their lives – from their social and emotional development to their passions and career pursuits. “It was so nice catching up with everyone and truly inspiring to hear how the passions and interests people had in high school have carried through into their lives.” Annalise shared, “seeing so many of us come together and reconnect this weekend was just a reminder of the meaningful and lasting impact SAS had on us all.”
These events remain a testament to the lifelong impact being a SAS Eagle has on all our alumni. Whether you were a student for a year or twelve, once an Eagle, always an Eagle.
Special thanks to our volunteer organizers Andrew, Annalise, Carina and Roseanne, as well as our corporate sponsors Wesley Tian of Aragon.Ai and Edgar Xi of Jito Labs. These events wouldn’t be possible without their contributions!
