Alumni Legends | The NFL Kicker: Cameron Dicker
Home was never just one place for NFL Kicker Cameron Dicker.
Cameron's story started in Hong Kong, where he was born, and continued in Shanghai, where he spent his early childhood and elementary years. His love for soccer took shape at Shanghai American School, playing with friends out on our fields. When his family moved to Texas as he entered middle school, that love found a new outlet: he traded the soccer pitch for the football field and channeled the same skill into a career as a kicker.
His time as an international student left him with more than a foundation in footwork. Cameron credits those early years growing up exposed to multiple cultures with something harder to teach — the ability to walk into any locker room, in any city, and make new connections. That adaptability allowed him to navigate the occasionally transitory nature of a professional athlete with ease. His first year out of university, he played for three teams before signing with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Fifteen years after leaving Shanghai, Cameron returned last semester to visit his beloved fifth grade teacher Mr. David Neill — and the warm welcome he felt reminded him of the deep bonds he shares with China, Shanghai, and the SAS community.
The NFL kicks off tomorrow and we can’t wait to cheer on Cameron this season! He may be a Charger, but to us he’ll always be an Eagle!
