NFL’s Cameron Dicker Surprises His 5th Grade Teacher

Before he was "Dicker the Kicker" — the most accurate kicker in NFL history — Cameron Dicker was just a kid in Shanghai, kicking a soccer ball around with his classmates at Shanghai American School.

Dicker spent the first eleven years of his life in Shanghai, where his father worked, and it was here that he first fell in love with the sport of soccer. Those early years — the friendships, the teachers, the community — shaped who he became.

Cameron's journey took him from Shanghai to Austin, Texas at age 11, where he made the transition from soccer to football. He played football for the University of Texas and started his NFL career in 2022, quickly making a name for himself. He is now the most accurate kicker in NFL history among those to have attempted 100 or more field goals.

Now a kicker for the Los Angeles Chargers, Cameron recently made a trip back to where it all began. And he had one very important stop to make.

In a moment that left the whole room a little teary-eyed, Cameron walked through the doors of Shanghai American School to surprise his favorite teacher Mr. David Neill, from 5th grade. The look on Mr. Neill's face said it all — some connections don't fade no matter how many years or miles stand between them.

But records and accolades aside, what this video captures is something simpler and more powerful: a young student who never forgot where he came from, and the teacher who helped shape him along the way. At SAS, this scene plays out hundreds of times per year, usually not with a professional NFL film crew to capture every minute. Our alumni come back to campus to reconnect with a teacher or teachers that made a lasting positive impact on their lives.
