Welcome Home, Eagles: A New Year at SAS

The first day of school is always filled with a special kind of magic. And yesterday was no different. The sidewalks and hallways of Shanghai American School were alive with hugs, cheerful waves, and that one-of-a-kind energy of friends reuniting after the summer holiday. New students stepped onto campus ready for their first day and were greeted by warm smiles that instantly made our big school feel a little smaller. For our seniors, it was their last first day of high school.  

This year, that energy was bigger than ever–literally. We’re starting the 2025–26 school year with our highest enrollment in 11 years, welcoming 3,047 students into our classrooms and hallways.The applicant pool to join SAS for this school year was exceptionally strong increasing over 8% from the prior year! It’s no small feat to find just the right new Eagle, but our Admissions Team, with representatives from six different countries made sure every new student felt right at home on day one. 

We look forward to watching all students quickly settle into the steady rhythm of vibrant SAS school routines. To our Eagles, old and new, we hope you had a wonderful summer, and are feeling rested, rejuvenated, and ready to tackle the year ahead. We have a feeling this year will be one of the best ones yet.
