Reimagining Learning—Even Virtually!
Despite the unexpected disruption caused by typhoon Bebinca, Shanghai American School's first Professional Learning Day of the year went on as planned. In true SAS style, we adapted and were able to quickly shift online. With over 490 faculty and staff coming together virtually as one school, the SAS community continued its journey of learning, collaboration, and growth.
Our Professional Learning Day marked the launch of SAS’s new Professional Learning Plan—a key element in building a thriving Learning Ecosystem. This effort aligns with our mission to contribute meaningfully to the betterment of the world, and the day’s outcomes were clear: empowering faculty to make a lasting impact on student learning, fostering connections between our teaching practices, and embracing new approaches to learning through Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Culturally Responsive Pedagogy (CRP), and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
SAS remains committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that students, faculty, and staff all grow together. As Pudong High School Math and Computer Science teacher, Mae Punzalan reflected, “I strive to encourage resilience and foster a growth mindset in my students. My goal is to inspire them to embrace challenges and view mistakes as valuable learning opportunities. Thanks to our Ed Programs team for helping us create the best learning environment possible!
