Discover Student Life After the Final Bell
At Shanghai American School, learning does not end when classes are over. After-school activities are an essential part of the student experience at SAS, giving students the freedom to explore interests, build confidence, and discover talents maybe they even didn’t know they had. With more than 300 activities offered across elementary, middle, and high school, no one can ever say there is nothing to do after school. Students can cook, debate, code, design robots, join jazz band, lead a service project, or join one of our competitive sports programs. At SAS, we truly have something for everyone.
Athletics are a major source of pride at SAS. With 13 sports programs, from swimming and table tennis to baseball and touch rugby, students have countless ways to get involved. SAS also has a strong history of winning Asia Pacific Activities Conference (APAC) championships, and our athletes frequently travel across Asia to compete against top international schools. Coaches focus on skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship, and our athletes proudly represent SAS everywhere they go.
The performing arts program at SAS is equally impressive. Rehearsals fill our Performing Art Centers and music rooms throughout the year as students prepare for plays, concerts, ensemble festivals, and more. Whether they are stepping into the spotlight or running things behind the scenes with the backstage crew, students find a place to belong and a stage to call their own. Along with our athletes, our student performers also often travel to attend festivals at other international schools. These trips spark independence and resilience for our Eagles.
What truly sets SAS apart is the culture of exploration and finding your passion. Students are encouraged to try new things, take healthy risks, and occasionally surprise themselves with what they enjoy. Our teachers, coaches, and directors support them every step of the way.
Curious to check it out firsthand? Join us for our After School Activities Experience on December 5, where we invite families to see this energy in action. Visitors will tour campus with Admissions, meet the Performing Arts and Activities Directors, and learn how students grow through exploration. Families have the option to stay afterward for our beloved Friday Night Lights tradition, featuring table tennis and touch rugby games, student performances, and an evening showing of the student play Peter Pan. Who knows, you might just picture your child competing, performing, and shining at SAS as well.
