Become a Certified Positive Discipline Early Childhood Classroom Educator
This two-day interactive workshops is designed for early childhood educators, teachers and caregivers who work with children from birth to six years of age. (Parents will also find the workshop helpful; however, the focus is on early childhood education.) Participants will learn to apply the principles and tools of Positive Disciplines, an Adlerian research-based philosophy, to working with groups of young children. they will also gain a deeper understanding of how young children learn, the importance of belonging and social and emotional learning, and how best to teach those skills in a classroom or care setting. Participants will earn recognition as Certified Positive Discipline Early Childhood Educators and will learn to:
- Create a classroom or care setting where children can develop a sense of belonging and significance based on importance of contribution and mutual respect.
- Understand how young children learn and how to adapt teaching to the needs of this age group.
- Foster essential social and emotional skills to support development and school readiness, and understand behavior and hope to guide it in groups of young children.
- Teach the essential skills in developmentally appropriate participation if class meetings.
- Learn Positive Discipline and Adlerian concepts for use in the classroom, preschool community and with parents.
Cheryl Erwin is a licensed marriage and family therapist, a Certified Positive Discipline Lead Trainer, and the author or co-author of several books in the bestselling “Positive Discipline” series, as well as the new Positive Discipline for Early Childhood Educators manual. Cheryl is a consultant for Early Head Start at the University of Nevada, Reno, and is a popular international speaker and trainer.
Jill Stansbury is the Early Childhood Social and Emotional Learning Specialist at the Shanghai American School Puxi campus. Her master’s degree is in educational leadership is from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. She has been a trainer for the Positive Discipline Association since 2007 and has used Positive Discipline preschool through high school as both a teacher and administrator since 1994. She enjoys helping educators strengthen their relationships with students by sharing strategies that teachers and schools can use to artfully teach students long-term life skills.

Visa: You will need a visa if coming to Shanghai from outside of China. A simple tourist visa is sufficient for the trip.
Transportation: Transportation will be provided from the recommended hotel to the Puxi campus. Participants are responsible for their own transport to and from the airport.
Recommended Hotel: Intercontinental NECC. The hotel is close by the school and five minutes walk to the subway.
