EARCOS - Learning and Assessing Mathematics that Make Sense

DATE: October 13-14, 2018
TIME: 8:30am - 3:30pm
COST: $50 USD for two days
REGISTRATION DUE: Friday, September 28, 2018
LOCATION: Shanghai American School, Puxi Campus, 258 Jinfeng Road, Minhang District, Shanghai, China 201107

This session will provide the opportunity for teachers to see what a balanced approach to math looks like. Using recent research about the best approach to learn math, we will explore the different elements needed for a successful balanced approach to mathematics in the elementary classroom.

We will explore the progressions of basic skills from K-5, moving from a concrete approach, to a pictorial representation, to finally move into more abstract strategies to build fluency. On the second day, we will dive deep into developing high quality math assessments that allow students to not only provide right answers, but that allow them to problem solve, to model their thinking, and to communicate and reason with their solutions.
