[Bio]

At Shanghai American School, our curriculum work is designed to enable student success in the 21st Century. We are an international school with an American standards-based curriculum. Through curriculum and its delivery, we provide common learning experiences for all students on our two campuses: Pudong, on the east side of the city and Puxi, on the west. We see development and review of the curriculum as an ongoing process, and maintain a current, written, coherent curriculum.

Our SAS Curriculum will

  1. Reflect a current, clearly articulated progression of standards and benchmarks in each discipline from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.
  2. Be well-resourced and delivered by experienced, caring teachers
  3. Provide maximum growth for individual students by emphasizing problem-solving, inquiry, discovery, and self-direction as well as creative and critical thinking.
  4. Monitor achievement of standards and benchmarks, both of individual students and school-wide.

University-level Course work at SAS High Schools

SAS offers three options for High School Juniors and Seniors: the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program, IB certificate courses and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Students may choose to enroll in the diploma program or take a selection of IB certificate courses and AP courses that fits their individual interests and future plans. Because of the rigor of study these options afford, it is important that students and their families, in consultation with counselors and teachers, make thoughtful choices with careful, realistic attention to individual student educational and life goals.
