High School
We offer a core college preparatory curriculum at Shanghai American School. Students take part in a rigorous academic program while also taking advantage of - or even creating - opportunities for personal growth.
We have created an environment of high achievement without antagonistic competitiveness, where academic rigor and creativity are celebrated and supported through after school activities and the curriculum.
The core curriculum (math, science, English, social studies) is supported by coursework in fine arts (music, art, and theatre), global languages (French, Mandarin and Spanish), as well as courses in computer science. English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is also available to students as needed. Students have a chance to immerse themselves in the local and regional culture through coursework, class trips and service learning opportunities.
- Develops the student's strengths, interests, and passions
- Matches the student's learning style
- Challenges the student to grow and develop into a vibrant member of our learning community
- Prepares the student to pursue their preferred course of study in the country of their choosing.
Students on both campuses have the option of taking the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program or taking courses from the Advanced Placement (AP) Program. Extensive college preparatory support is provided for all students by our team of experienced guidance counselors.
