Science

Registration is now Closed for summer 2016 Discovery Programs

The Science programs for 2016 are explorations of project based learning, applied math and engineering. This year we will feature Solar Summer, Extreme Rockets and Robotics and Super inventions and Mars Exploration! The students will build take-home projects from many different science kits. This program includes half-day of swimming, art and recreational sports.

Session 1 - June 20 to June 24

Lower Elementary Science: Solar Summer

Kindergarten to Grade 2 (5-7 years old)

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Tuition 6,000 RMB for one week

Let’s team up to explore the planet’s most powerful forces! Learn how new sources of energy can make the planet a better place to live by building speeding electric cars, cooking up s’mores using solar energy and creating your own water filtration system!

Upper Elementary Science: Solar Summer

Grades 3 to 5 (8-10 years old)

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Tuition 6,000 RMB for one week

This course will explore the applied science that accompanies this hands-on learning experience. Let’s team up to explore the planet’s most powerful forces! Session 2 - June 27 to July 8

Extreme Rockets and Robotics

Kindergarten to Grade 2 (5-7 years old)

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Tuition : 12,000 RMB for two weeks

Week 1 – Rocketry

Get pumped up for some space exploration! Children experience the Venturi Effect as they investigate air pressure, propulsion and stabilization while building and launching their own Ares Rocket, which safely launches over 1,000 feet into the air! Next, students learn about alternative fuels for rockets while building their own personalized chemical rocket. Using the scientific method, children will test a variety of chemical reactions to design the best fuel for their bubbling, ballistic blaster!

Week 2 - Robotics

Today, robots are not simply confined to the pages of science fiction. In Gizmo's Robot Factory, we take a look at the exciting world of technology as we build Buggy-Bot, a unique walking robot made from K'nex. Join us as future robotics engineers and get hands-on with many exciting aspects of science—from biomechanics and hydraulics to magnetism and chemistry!

Session 3 - July 11 to July 22

Super Inventions and Mars Exploration

Kindergarten to Grade 2 (5-7 years old)

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Tuition: 12,000 RMB for two weeks

Week 1 – Super Inventions

Could you be the next great inventor? Discover the science and history behind some of the world’s most famous and most useful inventions. Build a microscope, hovercraft and vacuum cleaner. Grow some big ideas and make some amazing scientific devices!

Week 2 – Mars Explorations

Travel to the Red Planet in an amazing journey of exploration! Scour the sands of Mars and survey rocks and minerals for clues to its ancient past. Build a K’nex Mars rover that is able to cruise across the surface, search for signs of fossil life, and find out what it takes to land a rover and even grow plants on Mars. Mysterious, distant Mars is our destination for science discovery and fun.
