Security Council

My name is Amy Liu, and I’m a senior at Shanghai American School. This will be my fourth and final year participating in high school MUN, and I’m so happy to have SHAMUN be one of my last conferences at SAS! When I’m not being overly enthusiastic about MUN, you can find me writing for the student newspaper, trying to talk about international politics with friends, or taking videos of my dogs. I’m so excited for the topics we’ve chosen in Security Council this year, since news on the topics are updating every few hours in real life.

Get ready for a great conference and see you all in November!

General Assembly

Hello!

My name is Tina and I am a senior at Shanghai American School Puxi. It is such an honor to be serving as the president of the general assembly for SHAMUN XIX. As much as people may poke fun at MUN for being full of facetious jargon ("fruitful" and "vague"), oversimplified topics and resumé fluff, for me MUN has truly been a place where I watched students bridge teenage apathy and engage in a real conversation about the real world. For that very reason the past 4 years I have dedicated to MUN as a delegate and as an officer have been sincerely fulfilling. I am so excited for the debate and conversation to take place this SHAMUN. It's going to be magical.

Over the years, I have seen SHAMUN grow exponentially both in numbers and in quality. With new additions like the Crisis Committee last year, and (most importantly of course) the UNEA this year, SHAMUN has truly grown into what I consider a phenomenal conference. I really look forward to seeing what type of conference will take place this year, and I'm willing to bet that its going to be an impressive one! Take, care, see you at SHAMUN XIX!!!

Hi!! I am Wesley and I am currently a Junior in Shanghai American School Puxi. I have been to various regional and overseas MUN Conferences, primarily as a delegate in either Security Council or ECOSOC. It has always been one of my aspirations to eventually become a politician who has the necessary platform and power to incite the much needed change in our ever-changing society. Having lived in China for the past nine years, I have the opportunity to witness that later part of China's rise into an international superpower. As the Deputy Chair of the Chinese Cabinet, I expect highly competent delegates representing the major voices in China's political scheme. The issue of South China Sea is not merely a maritime dispute, it is a symbol for China's hardening IR stance. I cannot wait for the fabulous debates that would happen in this year's SHAMUN!!

Crisis Back Room

Esteemed delegates and directors: welcome to SHAMUN XIX! I'm incredibly excited for what's to come and looking forward to the conference in november -- hopefully so are you! This year our SHAMUN team will be breaking new ground and doing unprecedented work; we will be introducing a joint crisis scenario featuring three committees. Our team is working around the clock to make sure all goes well when debate starts on the issue of the South China Sea. A three-way crisis flow has never been done outside of European MUN and thus we're incredibly grateful for your continued support and participation. Although I will be behind-the-scenes monitoring crisis flows, please feel free to stop me in the halls and say hi! I love to talk to delegates about current affairs and I have a huge passion for 1800s American history. And of course, like most of my officers, I'm a senior this year on the Varisty Model UN team at SASPX. Alright, enough talk, get researching! See you all very soon. -xie
