Elementary Athletics & Activities

Elementary students at both campuses may participate in the competitive CISSA league or enjoy a huge list of Afterschool activities (ASA).

Middle School Athletics & Activities

The SAS Middle School offers a number of exciting ASA opportunities (see list below) as well as the opportunity to join an athletic team. Sports included everything from soccer, rugby and basketball to volleyball, badminton and ping pong.

High School Athletics & Activities

The SAS High School student has the opportunity to participate in many ASA programs throughout the year and also join our very competitive athletic programs. Visit the ASA page or the Eagle Athletics page for more information.

The Athletics and Activities programs at Shanghai American School are continually growing and developing. Each campus has its own Activities / Athletic Director who develops programs that suit the needs of its students. This is in addition to a comprehensive Physical Education programs included in the regular academic curriculum.

Pudong and Puxi elementary and middle school students enjoy participating in Track and Field Days. Students from both campuses are also members of the China International Schools Sports Association (CISSA), which was formed to provide inter-school athletic experiences for elementary and middle school students in the Central China region. Teams from each campus play against each other, other Shanghai schools, as well as international schools from Suzhou and Nanjing.

On the Pudong campus, middle school students take part in home and away games involving rugby, soccer, hockey and basketball. Students at all grade levels have the opportunity to take part in house sports, organized to provide team sport activities during lunch breaks, as well as a golf tournament at Shanghai Links Executive Community. The house sports are organized in such a way as to provide children of different ages an opportunity to play together and compete on an equal footing with other houses in the school.
