CISSA

Elementary and Middle School students at both campuses participate in the competitive China International Schools Sports Association. This league emphasizes skill development and sportsmanship. Sports include: basketball, soccer, badminton, floor hockey and more.


The SAS High School (East Campus) participates in the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools. This conference represents a large number of international schools and offers tournaments for most major sports.



SAS High School students on both campuses participate in the Shanghai International Schools Athletic Conference. SISAC organizes season play and hosts a year-end tournament for basketball.

APAC

The SAS High School (West Campus) is one of six schools in the Asia Pacific Activities Conference. Athletes travel to Korea, Japan and the Philipines for tournaments in all the major sports.

The Athletics and Activities programs at Shanghai American School are continually growing and developing. Each campus has its own Activities / Athletic Director who develops programs that suit the needs of its students. This is in addition to a comprehensive Physical Education programs included in the regular academic curriculum.

The East and West Campus elementary and middle school students enjoy participating in Track and Field Days and large intramural and inter-scholastic Soccer Days. Students from both campuses are also members of the China International Schools Sports Association (CISSA), which was formed to provide inter-scholastic and intramural athletic experiences for elementary and middle school students in the Central China region. Teams from each campus play against each other, other Shanghai schools, as well as international schools from Suzhou and Nanjing. Middle school students take part in home and away games involving rugby, soccer, hockey and basketball.

On the East Campus, students at all grade levels have the opportunity to take part in house sports, organized to provide team sport activities during lunch breaks, as well as a golf tournament at Shanghai Links Executive Community. The house sports are organized in such a way as to allow children of different ages an opportunity to play together and compete on an equal footing with other houses in the school.

High School students on the East Campus are members of the local Shanghai International Schools Athletic Conference (SISAC) and the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS). These are very competitive leagues for basketball, volleyball and soccer. In addition to these sports, the High School students on the East Campus are also able to participate in badminton, rugby, baseball and softball and swimming.

On the West Campus, High School students participate in the Asia Pacific Activities Conference (APAC) and travel to Korea, Japan and the Philipines for all the major sports. Students may participate in tennis, volleyball, rugby, softball, baseball, soccer, basketball, pingpong and badminton. In addition to the seasonal APAC tournaments, SAS also participates in China Cup tournaments and hosts several local tournaments.
