Standardized Tests Scores
SAS requires the submission of recent standardized test scores as part of the application process for students applying for Grades 4-12. Examples of acceptable test scores are:
- 2 years of standardized test scores from the current school for students applying for Grades 5-12 and 1 year for students applying for Grade 4. This includes but not limited to the: Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS), Stanford Achievement Test (SAT – not to be confused with the Scholastic Aptitude Test), California Achievement Test (CAT), ERB Writing Assessment Program (WrAP), International School Assessment (ISA), Michigan Education Assessment Program (MEAP); and other such U.S. state and nationally recognized tests.
- Recent (within 6 months), Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) test results. The SSAT is available worldwide for students applying to grades 6-12. The ISEE is available on the Shanghai American School premises in the Spring for students applying to grades 5-12.
- PSAT, SAT or ACT scores for students applying for Grades 10-12.
- Recent (within 6 months) TOEFL scores will be acceptable for non-native English speakers applying for Grades 11 and 12.

Language Assessment for Non Native English Speakers
Students who are non-native English speakers may be asked to sit for a Language Assessment at SAS prior to acceptance and enrollment to determine placement in the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program.
